Trillium Flowers
Trilliums are woodland wildflowers found in North American temperate forests. They are members of the Lily Family (Liliaceae). In the mid-Atlantic region, where I live, we find trilliums in early spring, popping up through the leaves on the forest floor. They are always a treat. Trilliums are characterized by three colored petals sitting atop three sepals on a single stalk with three leaves. Delicate, perfect, and ephemeral, trilliums are one of the things I love about eastern woodland forests. Taking the time to seek out and admire trilliums helps me connect with the miracle that is this planet, and reminds me to tread lightly so that other living things can flourish.
